When I first purchased my skidsteer brush cutter I was still new to skidsteer attachments and had a lot to learn. To prevent damage to your brush cutter/skidsteer or injury to yourself or others there are several things you should do before turning your brush cutter on.
First: You will need to add gear oil to the gear box or it will quickly break.
Second: You should put Locktite on the bolts. With being shipped halfway around the world (most of the cheap ones are made in china) they have had plenty of time for the nuts to loosen. Plus the brush cutter tends to vibrate a fair amount so it tends to loosen the bolts pretty quickly anyway.
Third: There isn’t any hydraulic fluid in the motor or the hoses. When you first turn on the brush cutter it takes hydraulic fluid from the reservoir of your skidsteer. If you don’t refill it right away you could damage your skidsteer.
List of Supplies:
Step 1: Add Gear Oil to the Gear Box
1.1 Remove the protective cover over the motor and the gear box.
1.2 Remove the bolt on the side of the gearbox. If there is a bolt on the top of the gearbox remove this one as well.
1.3 Pour the gear oil into the gear box until it starts to come out the bolt hole on the side.
1.4 Replace and tighten the bolts on the side and top of the gearbox.
1.5 Don’t replace the cover until you finish step 2.
Step 2: Add Locktite to the bolts
2.1 Loosen the bolts attaching the gear box and motor to the brush cutter one at a time.
2.2 Add 3 drops of blue Locktite to the bolt.
2.3 Tighten the bolt back on and start on the next one.
2.4 Replace the protective cover over the gearbox.
Step 3: Add hydraulic fluid to the skidsteer
3.1 Look at the hydraulic fluid site glass on your skidsteer and make sure it is full. If it is low add the hydraulic fluid recommended by skidsteers users manual.
3.2 Attach the brush cutter to the skidsteer and run the brush cutter for a min. Don’t drive the skidsteer or try cutting anything at this point. The skidsteer is running hydraulic fluid from it’s main reservoir through the brush cutter.
3.3 Double check the hydraulic fluid site glass on your skidsteer and make sure it is still full. If it is low add the hydraulic fluid recommended by skidsteers users manual.
